Amanda Bynes Agrees to Outpatient Therapy to Resolve Marijuana Case

Amanda Bynes’ attorney Gerald Shargel is seen entering the Manhattan Criminal Court building on Jan. 10, 2014 in New York City.

Amanda Bynes did not appear in New York court today for a marijuana possession arrest from last May.

But through her lawyer, she agreed to attend outpatient therapy twice a week for the next six months.

The agreement is an adjournment in contemplation, which means if she complies and stays out of trouble, the case will be sealed and will not appear on her record. The case will be dismissed.

Bynes, 27, was arrested on May 23 and was charged with tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana, NYPD spokesman Det. Brian Sessa told ABC News at the time.

“There was a 911 call at her apartment building that someone was smoking marijuana in the lobby,” Sessa said, adding that once police arrived, a building official took them upstairs to her apartment and Bynes let them inside.

“There was a heavy smell of marijuana,” Sessa said. “[Then] she took the bong and threw it out the window.”

Bynes, who has previously been charged with DUI as well, has had a rough year.

After being detained over the summer for starting a fire in a residential driveway, Bynes was placed in the psychiatric wing of UCLA Medical Center and then moved to a Malibu rehab center in September.

She was released in December from that treatment center and is now recovering at her parents’ Los Angeles home. The “Hairspray” actress was to continue an outpatient program.

Her next court date for the marijuana case is June 30.
