Courtney Love and the two surviving members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, have ended their feud.
As the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Thursday night, the three took the stage together and Love and Grohl embraced.
“This is my family I’m looking at right now,” Love said, according to Rolling Stone. “I just wish Kurt [Cobain] could have been here. Tonight he would have really appreciated it.”
“Nice words from @Courtney tonight,” Novoselic tweeted later.
Since Cobain’s death in 1994, his widow and his former bandmates have been at odds.
Love sued Grohl and Novoselic in 2001 to dissolve a limited liability company that had been established to control the defunct band’s finances and other affairs, and the two counter-sued in an attempt to remove Love from the LLC, according to Rolling Stone.
She later fired back with a letter that said, among other things, “Kurt Cobain was Nirvana,” and that she and his family members were the rightful heirs to the Nirvana fortune. (The lawsuit was later settled.)
For the next few years, more disagreements over Nirvana’s name and fortune continued and, in 2011, Love accused Grohl of attempting to seduce her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
Both Grohl and Cobain denied the claims and Love later rescinded her statement.
Given their history, Love told Rolling Stone that she thought it might be uncomfortable to see Grohl at the ceremony.
“I think we’re all sitting at the same table,” she said.
It seems like everything worked out just fine.
