The X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger has defended the winner of last year’s show, James Arthur, after his recent scandals.
The former Pussycat Doll, 35, spoke out when asked to comment on James’ recent controversial behaviour – including singing lyrics perceived to be homophobic and having Twitter spats with fellow celebrities – which has caused outrage.
After James used a word considered to be homophobic in a rap, he has been criticised by fans and stars alike and decided to leave Twitter for good.
But Nicole was quick to defend him in an interview in today’s Mirror (14 December).
She said about James, who she mentored in The X Factor 2012: “I’m just there for him. I don’t read the press, I know who he is as a person, I know his heart.”
She added: “I’m just there to support him. He’s unbelievably talented and he’s worked so hard on his album. In the end I know that the cream will always rise to the top.”
James Arthur recently used his performance on The X Factor to apologise for his recent behaviour before singing his new single ‘Recovery’.
He told host Dermot O’Leary: “It’s been an amazing year for me, incredible highs paired with incredible lows. I’ve made some very silly mistakes but I just want to thank everyone who stuck by me through this difficult time.
“Above all, I just want to say sorry for abusing my position as an X Factor winner because I owe this show everything.”
