Dame June Whitfield, best known for her roles in Terry And June, Absolutely Fabulous and Take It From Here, passed away peacefully Friday night at home at the age of 93 and survived by daughter Suzy, confirmed her agent.
Born in 1925 in Streatham, June starred in 12 BBC Radio 4 Agatha Christie adaptations between 1993 and 2001 as Miss Marple.
Following the death of her husband she lived on her own for ten years in a big house. Last year she moved into a care home.
She was married in 1955 to Tim Aitchison.
She then said, “Now I have friends where I live and I like it. They’re fun… I don’t have to worry about things like the roof or the plumber any more.”
In one of her recent intreviews June said too much of sex and swearing in are found in modern television and this is the reason she don’t watch TV these days.
June said, “Everything, every channel, it’s either some sex scene or a killing of some kind.”
She added that there is no humor in today’s TV and one really don’t get a good laugh.
The fabulous star starred in Doctor Who as Minnie Hooper for David Tennant’s final episode The End of Time in 2009. Between 2015 and 2016 she acted in EastEnders, seen just in a brief role.
BBC producer Jon Plowman tweeted, “Very sad at the news of the death of the wonderful June Whitfield.”
Patsy actress Joanna Lumley said she is heartbroken to lose June and she will never forget her.
