Adventure holidays in the Soca Valley, Slovenia

The Soca Valley with its vast areas of rivers, cliffs and ravines is a magnet for sports fans and adventure tourists. The valley is ideally situated in the Triglav National Park, which boasts some of the most beautiful natural sights in Slovenia. Meanwhile, the nearby resort town of Bovec proves a convenient base from which to commute to a range of sports and activities.

White Water Rafting on the Soca River

From April to October adrenaline junkies take to the 96km-long Soca River to try out their rafting skills. Soca Rafting, whose sports centre is located in Bovec, has been organising white-water rafting trips for over 20 years and provides extra perks such as picnics by the river and home-made liquer tasting at a local inn. Excursions typically provide 1hr-1hr 30mins rafting time along with the option to take on a 20km stretch of the river.

Brave Extreme Heights with Canyoning

Canyoning combines a range of techniques such as mountain climbing, abseiling and swimming to create an all-round adrenaline experience. If high precipices, stunning natural beauty and abseiling over rushing waterfalls sound like your thing, Outdoor Freaks offer canyoning for groups of 2-8. Trips are available at medium or difficult level and an experienced guide is available to those new to abseiling.

Bungee Jump over the Soca River

Slovenia’s only bungee jumping centre Top Extreme, features a jump from a bridge set 55m over the turquoise waters of the fast-flowing Soca River. Jumpers are rewarded with a certificate and a hair-raising experience. Bungee season is from April till October and is only available at weekends.

Take to the Skies with Tandem Paragliding

Strictly not for the faint-hearted, this flight takes passengers from a point 2000m above the valley before soaring for 30mins over its dramatic scenery. Avantura provides this service for 110 euros and ensures that all passengers are provided with a qualified pilot.

Winter Sports on Mount Kanin

Kamin is located in the Julian Alps on the 2587 metre-high Mount Kanin and is the highest ski station in Slovenia. This alpine centre features 15km of pistes and cross-country runs and has a long ski season that sometimes lasts from December into early May. The ski resorts Sella Nevea and Trbiz in Italy and Aroldstein in Austria are within easy reach as well. Other winter sports in the region include off-piste skiing, ice climbing, dog sledding and snow paragliding.

Family Adventure Holidays in the Soca Valley

Don’t let the kids miss out on the action too.
