United States President Donald Trump said Thursday that people from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries come from shithole to America while discussing with lawmakers in his Oval Office about protecting immigrants.
He added that US must bring more people from countries like Norway.
A day before before commenting, on Wednesday, he had met with Norwegian prime minister.
White House official said Trump suggested to bring more immigrants from Asian countries as the people from there help the US economically.
Trump mentioned, “Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out.”
Late last year the Trump government rescinded deportation protection which were granted to about 60,000 Haitians saying they must return back by July 2019.
In a released statement White House spokesman Raj Shah said Trump is fighting for the American people and not like other politicians who fight for foreign countries.
Shah added, “Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute.”
It is true Trump had built his presidency around hard stances on immigration. He had also promised during the presidential campaign to build a wall along the Mexican border.
However, Thursday’s remarks of Trump were met with scorn from Democrats and even from some of his Republicans.
Some of the Republicans said behavior of Trump is unacceptable.
One of the Republicans cited words of grandmother who used to say, “Tell me who you walk with, and I’ll tell you who you are.”
In 2016 The New Year Times reported Trump had said immigrants from Haiti have AIDS. It was denied by White House.
