Billy Porter nominated at Emmys. He becomes first openly gay black man for it

This year the Emmys got something different and the LGBT community would be encouraged to watch the mega event. Billy Porter is learned to be nominated in the outstanding lead actor in a drama series category.

Billy Porter will be the first openly gay black man who will be getting nominated for the Emmys. He shared his success on Instagram writing, “Ahhhhhhh, I’m screaming.”

The show Pray Tell in Pose is a series on BBC in the UK and is in its second season. It is about New York’s LGBT ballroom scene in the 1980s. The series features several queer and transgender actors.

The 49-year-old was earlier nominated for the same work in Golden Globe.

In 2013 Billy Porter grabbed the Tony for best actor for his role as Lola in Kinky Boots. A year later he picked up Grammy for best musical theatre album for the same.

However, at this year’s Emmys the Game of Thrones is a leading with 32 nominations, which is the most for any programme in single season.

The current season of Game of Thrones has toppled NYPD Blue’s 25-year record for being the highest number of nods in a single year.

The second is Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with twenty nominations and Sky Atlantic drama Chernobyl grabbed 19 nominations.
