“One Direction: This is Us,” a concert documentary featuring the highly successful English-Irish band, dominated the global box office this week, bringing in $31.5M in the period ending September 1, according to data from the research company Rentrak.
Currently in cinemas in 54 territories, the feature film on the boy band was particularly popular with North American audiences. In the US and Canada, “One Direction: This is Us” took in $17 million, or 54 percent of its revenues worldwide.
Still in second place at the international box office, “Elysium” brought in $24.2 million in theaters across 56 territories during the week ending on September 1. Neill Blomkamp’s science fiction feature, which stars Matt Damon, has earned a total of $176.1 million since its release.
“We’re The Millers” is in third place this week, with $23.5 million in revenues from theaters in 34 territories. The comedy, headlined by Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, will be released in 14 additional territories during the month of September.
