Headingley: More rain forces the abandonment of the Roses clash

Lancashire’s LV= County Championship Division One clash against Yorkshire has been abandoned while there was no play on day three between Middlesex and Sussex.

No play was possible on day four at Headingley meaning the Roses clash was abandoned as a draw.

The visitors had been looking to build on their overnight 48-3, a lead of 130 despite Tim Bresnan’s figures of 3-9, but miserable conditions in Leeds put paid to that and the game was abandoned less than 20 minutes after the scheduled start.

Lancashire’s first-innings of 325 helped them to 11 points from the fixture, to Yorkshire’s nine. For both teams, it was their third draw in six Division One games this season.

Elsewhere, rain meant that Middlesex’s clash with Sussex was washed out for a third straight day.

Heavy rainfall in the capital meant that umpires Steve Garratt and David Millns called play off well ahead of the scheduled start time.

With just a day left and not a ball bowled in anger, a result looks virtually impossible at Merchant Taylors’ School Ground in Northwood.

Middlesex have won four of their opening six games at the start of the season to top the Division One table, with Sussex fourth.
