Electronic music pioneer Aphex Twin unveils mind-bending AR App

Distinguished electronic music maestro Richard David James, recognized as Aphex Twin, has ventured into the digital domain by unveiling an innovative augmented reality (AR) app. The acclaimed artist, renowned for his unique modern electronic creations, has introduced an application that reflects the enchanting and surreal essence of his music.

Dubbed “YXBoZXh0d2lu,” this interactive smartphone experience plunges users into captivating “AR landscapes,” harmonized with the melodies from his latest EP, “Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760.” To engage with the app, users simply need to activate their smartphone’s camera and scan the physical packaging of the EP. The front cover, CD, vinyl front, and back and inner sleeves each unveil their own exclusive 3D visual wonders.

The app delivers an array of immersive encounters inspired by distinct tracks from the EP, including a one-of-a-kind “festival experience” and an engaging beat-matching game. By transforming the vinyl packaging into a three-fold “anamorphic diorama,” users unlock access to four track-specific AR journeys.
