Facebook CEO has surprised everyone. He has also gone way ahead than other Billionaires in pledging for charity.
Mark Zuckerherg announced Tuesday his wife Priscilla Chan has given birth to a baby girl Max last week and both of them pledges to donate 99 percent of their Facebook shares to charity, to the cause of human advancement.
The social platform mogul added donated money will go to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which is a company to pursue the mission by funding non-profit organizations, participate in policy debates and also make private investments.
The Tuesday’s announcement is in the format of writing a letter to their newborn daughter Max and it mainly focuses on two central goals – promoting equality and advancing human potential.
Zuckerberg is the seventh richest person in the world as per Forbes’ Real Time Billionaires ranking.
In 2014 the couple pledged $25 million dollars to fight Ebola as well as other larger public health crisis including polio and HIV. They also donated $100 million to the Newark public school system.
Some of the goals of Chan Zuckerberg Initiative align with Internet.org project too of Facebook that focus in establish zero-rated internet access in poor countries.
Zuckerberg and Chan are also part of an initiative called the Giving Pledge to give at least 50 percent of their wealth to charity.
Others who have made pledges under it include Bill and Melinda Gates, Richard and Joan Branson, and Warren Buffett.
Facebook was founded a decade ago in 2004 and it is claimed more than 1 million people use the platform every day.
