Facebook VP Diego Dzodan Said Was Well Respected In Brazilian Jail

Briefing to the students of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management on Saturday on Latin American business trends the Facebook Inc vice president Diego Dzodan said he was treated will by jailers in a Brazilian jail.

Dzodan was arrested earlier this week on Tuesday and put behind bars for 24 hours due to dispute over law enforcement demands for data from WhatsApp for use in secretive drug trafficking investigation.

The VP was released the next day after a court order of his arrest was overturned by an appeals judge.

Dzodan said he was treated with a lot of respect in the jail.

He added Facebook does not has access to any data of its secure WhatsApp messaging service.

The VP said, “The way that information is encrypted from one cell phone to another, there is no information stored that could be handed over to authorities.”

Dzodan added the Brazilian experience during a Q&A session after a talk of innovation for about a half-hour. He didn’t also missed saying his arrest would not affect the plans of Facebook for the country.

He said Brazil is a huge market and the company would be extremely committed to focus on long term.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Facebook spokesman said the company was pleased with the release of their VP.

Presently, most of the tech companies are facing mounting pressure from governments across the world to help with data information. In the San Bernardino terror attack case the Federal court has asked Apple to allow unlimited efforts in unlocking the iPhone used by one of the attackers.
