Families Bury Earthquake Victims With Tears In Italy

Death toll of the massive earthquake that shook Italy has climbed to 290 and the painful task of burying dear ones have started. Saying goodbye to the victims at a state funeral in the town of Ascoli Piceno were tough.

At the site 35 coffins of earthquake victims sat in three rows were adorned with flowers accompanied with framed photographs. The dead bodies were taped at the foot with in white paper bearing names and were from the town of Arquata del Tronto.

Family members of the deceased clustered around specific coffin just before the ceremony. At one coffin a teenager was seen sitting on the floor beside it and weeping inconsolably. At another coffin a family encircled with peach-colored flowers. Members held each other in a long embrace.

People in hundreds gathered for ceremony of Bible readings and prayers. It was led by Bishop Giovanni d’Ercole.

The Bishop conveyed sad story of a little girl who survived in the rubble, but under her elder sister, who apparently shielded her and was killed.

Ercole added, “They were holding each other, between them in embrace, both death and life.”

Lot of children were found dead in the quake that is like a war for them with nature and they should not provoke the nature.
