Peter Taylor: Praying that George Howard makes a recovery

Former Gillingham keeper George Howard is in ICU in a South Africa hospital after being involved in a serious car accident.

A statement on the club’s official website reports that Howard, one of a dozen players released by the club this month, has been left in a coma and on life support as a result of the accident which happened last week.

The 20-year-old has been in hospital for six days and remains in a critical condition.

Gills boss Peter Taylor said: “I am absolutely devastated to hear of the news and we are praying for his recovery.

“My thoughts are with George, his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The club added: “We were saddened to learn this morning (Wednesday) of a serious car accident which has involved George Howard.

“The thoughts of everyone at Gillingham FC are with George and his family.

“Donations are being collected for George’s rehabilitation and helping his family remain in the country with him.”
