Simon Cowell may have given a break to the Spice Girls, but they gave an impromptu audition and were rejected.
Cowell is well known having an eye for budding talent.
The 41-year-old former Spice Girls member, Mel B, recalled their biggest mistakes in career on Monday to Jimmy during an appearance on The Tonight Show.
However, the British five piece later signed to EMI and Virgin, and became the most popular and lucrative girl brands in history, leaving Cowell to lick his wounds.
In the 1990s the girls, including Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell, blocked the car park where the music exec was trying to get his car out and sung for him.
The girls said to Cowell, “Look we’re going to be famous one day, can you sign us?” The answer was obviously a big NO by him and he said, “It’s not going to work.”
Even though the Spice Girls was initially rejected, Mel B now is a good friend with The X-Factor creator and currently she also judges America’s Got Talent alongside him.
Mel B said, “He’s a bit of a trip, a bit of a naughty one…those terrible trousers and shirts that he wears… He’s a very rich guy…and he knows talent when he sees talent.”
Mel B is also called as Malanie B. She was born as Melanie Jannie Brown on 29 May 1975 in Leeds, England.
The other guest on Jimmy’s show was 26-year-old Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, who said he worshipped Spice Girls as a child.
Opening June 24, Radcliffe can be seen in Swiss Army Man.
Recalling how he and others of his age were swept away by the Spice Girls group he said, “I was just the right age to have crushes on all of them.”
