Stuart Gray: Looking to bring fresh faces into Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray is being inundated with player offers, but claims to have drawn up a list of top transfer targets.

With the summer window fast approaching, managers across the country are busy finalising their plans.

Gray is no different, with it important for Wednesday to strengthen if they are to remain competitive at a Championship level.

They are also waiting on responses from those offered new contracts, with the futures of Chris Kirkland, Jose Semedo, Glenn Loovens and Oguchi Onyewu still up in the air.

Gray finds himself in a tricky situation as he cannot say for certain who will be on his books next season, but he admits that additions are required regardless of how extension talks unfold.

He said in the Sheffield Star: ” You’ve got to work on the basis of all four will re-sign or they won’t. You’ve got to make sure you’ve got all the bases covered.

“My phone rings about 20 times every day from agents offering players.

“We’ve identified which players we want to bring in. We are a bit thin on the ground regarding our squad. We need to add that competition.”

Gray added on those mulling over fresh terms: “They have all indicated they want to stay. We would love it to be done and dusted but it doesn’t work like that.

“Every other Championship club will be in exactly the same position as us. Managers want all their pieces in place, but it probably won’t happen for a few weeks yet.”
