NEW YORK, May 2, 2014 /Emag.co.uk/ — Porter Novelli has named Dr. Doug Elwood senior vice president and medical advisor of Porter Novelli’s Health & Wellness group in New York and Suzannah Palinkas senior vice president of its Health & Wellness group in Washington D.C.
Both are new positions reporting respectively to Paul George, global director of health, and Rosemary McGillan, executive vice president of health and social marketing.

Before joining Porter Novelli, Dr. Elwood worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb where he started as Strategy and Communications Lead in Medical Affairs and then became Digital and Innovation Strategy Lead for the Diabetes franchise in Global Commercialization. A former vice president and medical advisor for the Health and Wellness practice at Widmeyer Communications, Dr. Elwood has worked with clients that include, among others, Pfizer, the John Theurer Cancer Center, the Brain Injury Research Institute, Nestle SA and Nestle USA, and the American Foundation for the Blind.
Dr. Elwood is a board-certified physician with specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), education, and patient care. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, abstracts, and presentations at international conferences on several topics within health. He remains a part-time faculty member at NYU Langone Medical Center where he directs one of the country’s largest patient and healthcare provider engagement programs exploring new technology and innovation. For this work, he was invited to author a chapter of the annual HIMSS publication released in February, 2014 entitled “mHealth Innovation: Best Practices From the Mobile Frontier.” He has also been awarded multiple internal and external grants to create apps that have improved different facets of health delivery. His articles have appeared on KevinMD.com and WSJ.com.
Most recently Palinkas was a VP at Ketchum and prior to that supervised communications for GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) oncology franchise and the lead product in the company’s breast cancer treatment portfolio.
Over the course of her career, Palinkas has developed communications strategies for companies such as Pfizer, Eli Lilli, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Solvay Pharmaceuticals. She also has managed medical professional and consumer education programs for the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Cardiology and the American society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
