Interesting Carolina locations to visit

While travelling through North and South Carolina, guests are sure to see many things. Whether it is the grandeur of the mountains at autumn, the miles of sand along its coastline, big cities bustling with activity or small towns that delight in their quaintness, the Carolina’s are sure to delight all their guests. And regardless of which roads are travelled, one is sure to see many interesting locations.

In fact, travelers could spend a number of weeks, just visiting some of these locations. So, if looking for a unique road trip through the Carolinas, here are a few places to include on the itinerary.

North Carolina Locations

  • tsboro/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina travelers will find a delightful sight, the art creations of Clyde Jones. Some years ago, Mr. Jones discovered he enjoyed creating animals out f blocks of wood. The hobby began with a piglet and today has grown to hundreds of animals built from blocks of wood, roots, twine and stumps. In fact, his work has even been features in papers like the New York Times and the New Art Examiner.

  • North Carolina- Known as the Furniture Capital of the World. Visitors know they have arrived when they see the nearly 40 feet high block-front chest or the 8 story high bureau-the world’s largest. In nearby Thomasville, is the world’s largest Duncan Phype chair which measures 18 feet tall and sits on a 12 foot high base.

South Carolina Locations

  • irst glance, just an average Southern town. However, some years ago the Garden Club had a “Yard of the Month” contest and resident Pearl Fryar decided to enter. Unfortunately, he lived just outside the city limit and thus did not qualify to enter. So, he decided to come up with something so unique they would have to make and exception. Fryar went to a local garden shop where he saw a spiral shaped shrub. And, though the owner wouldn’t sell it to him, he did teach him how to prune one like it for himself. Before long, Fryar had taught himself topiary and began sculpting plants. Now, guests to his property will see shrubs sculpted into hearts, mushrooms, loops and even words. His garden has grown in fame, attracting guest from all around the globe.

  • rangeburg, the amazing structures include buildings, bridges and monuments from all over the world…just as miniatures. Built by the late building contractor, L. C. Carson, the well known architectural delights such as The London Bridge, the Pyramids, Notre Dame Cathedral, and many others have delighted guests for year. Today, the collection can be seen at the SC State Museum in Columbia.

  • South Carolina would be complete without a visit the South of the Border in Dillon, S. C. The place is marked by Pedro, which is the largest free-standing sign east of Las Vegas. Guest will also see a giant dachshund, a giant shark, and many other giant items.
