James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff are separating. They have decided to divorce after ten years of their married life. Their reps have announced the couple is breaking up.
The Scottish actor and English actress started dating in 2004. The two first met starring together in the UK series Shameless in the same year. Both tried to keep their off-screen romantic relationship secret. They got married in 2006. It was a private and low-key ceremony as well.
In one of his radio interviews McAvoy said Duff was the woman of his dreams.
Both have a son named Brendan together. He was born in 2010. The official birth date has never been released by the couple to protect privacy.
In the British series McAvoy had small roles but he made himself a big hit with the movie The Last King of Scotland in 2006. With it he got noticed in Hollywood. Later he starred in several other movies including Wanted, Atonement, Becoming Jane and The Conspirator.
Duff is not a big name in America but she has worked in several British series, films and theatre as well. She gained much fame with her roles in the original Flona Gallagher.
She last appeared in the movie Suffragette in 2015 with Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter.
They were last seen together in November 2015 attending Evening Standard Theatre awards in London.
Reps of both the stars released a joint statement on Friday, May 13, citing the two have decided to divorce and hope to remain friends and co-parent of the child.
