Judge Joe Brown Released From Jail

Judge Joe Brown is a free man.

After spending just a few hours in a Memphis jail, the former TV personality was released on his own recognizance.

According to a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Judge James C. Beasley signed an order to set him free.

“I’m a little hot under the collar,” the former host of “Judge Joe Brown” told reporters upon being released without bond. “[In] forty years, I’ve never seen such a circus as they’ve got down there.”

On Monday, Brown, 67, was found in contempt of court during a child support hearing.

However, Brown, who is running for SHelby County District Attorney, insisted that he should not have been jailed in the first place.

“For God’s sake, you challenge the jurisdiction, you challenge the qualifications, you challenge the venue, you challenge the service process, you challenge the summons. That’s what a defense lawyer’s supposed to do,” he said.

“There have been a lot of judges in this county, Arkansas and Mississippi who have threatened to find me in contempt and I wasn’t doing anything, but some light weight stuff.”
