Kanye West: Rappers risk their lives every day just like police officers

In a recent interview with Saturday Night Online, Kanye West likened his life as a rapper to that of a police officer.

“I’m just giving up my body on the stage and putting my life at risk, literally,” West told radio host Garrett.

As part of his Yeezus tour, the 36-year-old rapper stands on top of a moving mountain to perform a few of his songs.

“That mountain goes really, really high,” he explained. “And if I slipped . . . You never know. And I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like ‘Wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.'”

West said the possibility of injuring himself and his career makes him worry about fiancee Kim Kardashian, 33, and daughter North, 5 months.

“You’re literally going out to do your job every day knowing that something could happen to you,” West said. “Something could happen to you verbally from the press bashing you; something could happen to you from people not liking you anymore ’cause of your records or you could actually slip on that stage.”

“We are walking this tightrope and fighting for creativity, fighting for ideas and fighting for thought,” he added. “I’ll explain to my daughter one day that we had to fight for this position that we’ll finally have.”

During his interview, West also compared his life in the spotlight to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. (In the Jennifer Lawrence film, based on the bestselling book, 24 previous winners of the Hunger Games are chosen to compete again in the 75th games, where they fight to the death until one survivor remains.)

“It’s like this idea of all of these contestants over the years that have won and they all have been quiet,” West explained. “And then there’s one [Lawrence] that won and wanted to turn up.”
