Even though her bidding was anonymous, but now it is revealed Kim Kardashian has bought Jackie Onassis’s Cartier Tank watch from an auction in New York City lately at triple price.
Christie had expected the timepiece to be sold at just $120,000, but the reality TV star paid $379,500.
A blog post on Christie’s website reveals the estimated sale price of the classic timepiece was between $60,000 and $120,000.
If believed to a gossip site, the classic watch was gifted to Kennedy by her brother-in-law Prince Stanislaw Radziwill to support his goal of making Americans healthier.
The watch bears an engraved date of February 23, 1963 and Kennedy received it just nine months before the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas.
The purchase is surprising as Kim differs in style with Kennedy and the watch celebrated 100-year anniversary this year. It is one of the most classic timepieces for women.
It is learned a part of the purchase proceed will be donated to the National Endowment for the Arts.
Christie’s website reveals the expensive watch was manufactured in 1962 and on the rear side below phrase is engraved:
“Stas to Jackie, 23 Feb. 1963, 2.05am to 9.35am.”
The website adds Kennedy can be seen in several iconic pictures wearing the watch on her wrist.
An original painting of Jackie Kennedy, “50 Mile Hike,” was also on sale. It depicts Stas hiking in Palm Beach in 1963. Kardashian bought the painting too.
