Kim Kardashian has mostly been in the news for her differently dressing and this time, over the Halloween weekend, she was seen dressed as Aaliyah, one of the most beloved R&B singers.
Paying homage to the iconic music legends, the wife of rapper Kanye West took a look from Aaliyah’s 2001 hit “Try Again.” She wore a bejeweled choker equipped with a matching bra and black pants.
Sharing the costume on social media the 37-year-old reality TV star wrote, “Baby Girl Aaliyah.” Fans were quick to notice the dress and couldn’t resist criticizing her.
One of the users tweeted Aaliyah was a black woman and Kim is not.
Another Twitter user wrote that it’s a no that Kim Kardashian tries looking as Aaliyah.
This is not the first time the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star faced claims of cultural appropriation. She was condemned by fans and followers for defending the racist comments of makeup artist and beauty vlogger Jeffree Star.
Earlier to it the mom of two was criticized for posting promotional photos from a shoot to rep her beauty line.
Kim was also dressed as Cher and Madonna apart from Aaliyah, but the other two show-stopping looks were overshadoowed with the controversy.
One of the Twitter users wrote the costume was not adjacent to cultural appropriation and such attempt should be stopped.
However, there were some fans who defended Kim saying what is wrong if she dresses like Aaliyah.
Earlier Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei too dressed as Aaliyah, but from her Queen Akasha character of Queen of the Damned movie released in 2002.
