Kim Kardashian is in Bali and her posing for pictures on the back of an elephant is now being widely criticized. In fact the practice is deemed cruel with several British companies and sale of tickets for the purpose has also been ban.
Downton Abbey actor Peter Egan said the ignorance of Kim is a lack of care as she is unable to understand the cruelty inflicted on the animals.
The images posted online shows the reality TV actress wearing a bikini and enjoying an elephant ride.
Peta too slammed Kim for climbing on an elephant as riding the animal supports abuse on them by tourists who leave the elephants severely injured and traumatized.
However, kim responded saying she had researched well with the sanctuary before visiting.
She added, “We visited an elephant sanctuary that has rescued these elephants from Sumatra where they would have otherwise gone extinct. It is an organization that is working to save these beautiful animals. We did full research before going.”
For years animal rights charities have campaigned to ban such elephant riding practice and sanctuaries have been created for the animals.
Travel sites too have joined the campaign and many of those including TripAdvisor have dropped selling tickets for wildlife experiences where people might come in contact with wild animals.
Apart from all these it is to note the 38-year-old climbed the elephant without using the seat on the back. Usually the seat rub and dig into the skin of the animals.
