London, England – Francesca Martire, a London art dealer, has been invited by Italian police for some questions about the death of her 93-year old mother.
According to initial findings, Ms. Martire attempted to perform exorcism to her mother using a rosary, but the authorities suspect that she tried to suffocate her mother to death. Maria Luigia Magazzile, her mother, was already dead when authorities found her in her apartment, which is located in Taranto City, Southern Italy. After confirmation of the mother’s death, Carabinieri police immediately arrested Ms. Martire, as she is the nearest possible perpetrator.
A week before the incident that shocked neighbors, Francesca Martire arrived in the southern part of Italy, in her native town. During her stay in the apartment, the authorities suspect that she thought her mother had to be purified. This is because she believed that some evil spirits have taken over her mother’s apartment. Supposedly, she is to perform exorcism using a rosary to drive away the evil spirits.
According to local news reporters, their neighbors found Ms. Martire in a state of confusion. Then, they heard her screaming for help. She was asking for an ambulance. When faced by the police, she reported that her mother was suffering from suffocation. She further said that she tried to intervene and help her. She opened her mother’s mouth and helped the latter to breathe properly.
But according to a postmortem examination, the cause of Mrs. Magazzile’s death was a possibly a rosary that got stuck in her throat. This caused her inability to breathe, and consequently and unfortunately led to her suffocation.
Francesca Martire moved to London in 1986. She then successfully ran a shop that specializes on lighting, furniture and design. She is scheduled for a psychiatric evaluation, and is currently detained in a hospital.
