‘Million Dollar Arm’ Gave Lake Bell Serious India Envy

Filming “Million Dollar Arm” took “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm around the globe to recreate the journey that brought the first two Indian players to MLB.

Speaking with Hamm, he doesn’t exactly hide his enthusiasm for the country.

“It was amazing. India is a unique place. Obviously, it’s on the other side of the world, so it’s a long way from home,” Hamm said. “For the most part, everything is different. Everything is new. Everything is exciting. Everything is overwhelming, not just the sights and the smells and the sounds, but the people. There are so many people.”

It all sounded very nice… for everyone in the cast that got to go.

Poor Lake Bell, who plays JB’s love interest, Brenda, only appears in video chats during the first act of the movie, something that didn’t exactly please the actress.

“There’s massive India envy. Everyone got to pack up and go to one of the most extraordinary places on the planet. Oh, sad! They had to work. That’s b.s. That’s bulls***t. Where’s my ticket?” Bell said. “My character’s on Skype the whole time. I get it. Technology, but come on. Throw us a bone.”

Despite Bell’s claims that any complaints about filming in India were b.s., Hamm did mention some real hazards that came with the territory.

“There are some serious caveats, “to dos” and “not to dos,” in India,” Hamm said. “One is never touch the fruit basket. You never know what you’re going to get there. You never want to get involved with any gastro situation.”

“Million Dollar Arm” opens in theaters on May 16.
