OpenAI, the company that made the AI chatbot ChatGPT, is adding a new feature. This could make talking to digital assistants different. Currently, when you chat with ChatGPT, it doesn’t remember anything from past conversations. This is because of privacy, but it also makes it less helpful as a personal assistant.
Now, OpenAI is addressing this limitation by adding a memory feature to ChatGPT. This means that ChatGPT will be able to remember important details from previous conversations, like if you mentioned your child’s peanut allergy or your email signature preferences. It can then use this information to provide more personalized responses in future conversations.
The memory feature will also learn over time, picking up on things you mention frequently and storing them for future reference. For example, if you often talk about books with ChatGPT, it will remember which books you’ve read and what genres you like. This personalized memory will make ChatGPT smarter and more attuned to your specific needs.
However, OpenAI is mindful of privacy concerns and assures users that they will have control over ChatGPT’s memory. You can choose to delete specific information or turn off the memory feature altogether if you’re uncomfortable with it. This new feature is currently in beta testing and will be rolled out to a small number of ChatGPT users this week, with plans for a broader release in the future.
