Pay to Play for Huge Music Stars on The NFL

Looks like the National Football League (NFL) is on cost cutting. This show is quite known for huge music acts during half time shows and it may seem like they want to no longer pay those seemingly expensive music performers. As a matter of fact, they are now planning to have Katy Perry, Rihanna and even Coldplay to be part of it given the fact that they will pay for their show. Yes, you are reading it right. According to the Wall Street Journal, the NFL already asked one of the artists and we quote, “if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig.” And in case you don’t know, big acts like Beyonce and Madonna performed for free on the show which means they didn’t pay a single cent for the gig so this new  deal of the NFL to the next artists who will be performing for them is getting a lot of issues and negative vibes.

The reason behind this change is because the NFL saw the potential of exposure of artists performing in a large crowd like that plus the success that artists get after the performance. There was only a few feedback from the company itself and no acknowledgement so far from the artists that they are eying to perform. There was however a tweet from Katy Perry saying, “Negotiating 101: You always win if you have nothing to lose!” People are speculating it’s related to the NFL performance. On the other hand, Rihanna could be a risk when it come to performing because of the sexual nature of her artistry and as we all know, that is usually not accepted on prime time. NFL has been really careful when it comes to choosing the artist that they want for the show since the malfunction from the wardrobe that happened with Janet Jackson during her performance with Justin Timberlake about a decade ago. And if you would all remember MIA raised her middle finger when she performed on the show which also lead to a 16M lawsuit. There are final statements from the artists yet about the matter so we guess we’d all find out soon.
