The Sundance Kid opens up about his secretive role in the Marvel sequel.
When Robert Redford was rumoured to be in talks for taking a role in the upcoming Captain America sequel you could have been forgiven for thinking it was an early April Fools Day prank. The acclaimed actor, director and Sundance Festival founder isn’t usually found in summer blockbusters but while promoting his latest movie as actor/director The Company You Keep, the 76 year old icon let slip a few teasing details.
“I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”
Although he can’t discuss any details he did reveal that he will be playing “the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.” This will make him a higher ranking member of the covert team than Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury, so we can’t wait to see how Redford fits into the mix of established characters.
Also starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders, Toby Jones, Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie. Captain America: The Winter Solider is released in cinemas April 4 2014.
