David Murdoch: GB skip on brink of place in last four

Great Britain’s men have the chance to secure a place in the curling semi-finals when they take on Norway in their penultimate round-robin match (5am GMT).

David Murdoch’s rink sit joint third in the standings with a 5-2 record and victory over Norway – who are famed for their colourful trousers – will be enough to guarantee progress.

Zoe Gillings, competing at her third Winter Olympics, is Britain’s representative in the women’s snowboard cross.

Gillings finished 15th when the event debuted in Turin eight years ago and was eighth in Vancouver in 2010.

American Lindsey Jacobellis, an eight-time X Games gold medallist, has another chance to add an elusive Olympic title to her collection. Jacobellis was on course for gold in 2006 before crashing while showboating and had to settle for silver.

Figure skaters Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland are in action for Britain in the short dance part of the ice dancing. The medals are decided with the free dance on Monday and Canada’s defending champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are expected to battle it out for gold with American world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

The other British interest on Sunday is in the opening two runs of the two-man bobsleigh where Lamin Deen and John Baines take to the track at the Sanki Sliding Centre.

Baines was a late replacement for former Olympic sprinter Craig Pickering, who was ruled out by a back injury.

The alpine skiing programme continues with men’s super G. Norwegian veteran Aksel Lund Svindal is defending the title he won in Vancouver, while American Ted Ligety is the reigning world champion.

The other gold medals being handed out on Sunday are in the men’s mass start biathlon and women’s 1,500 metres speed skating.
