The highest-grossing animated film ever is none other than the Lion King, which has earned this weakend $1.33 billion.
Released on July 19, the remake has surpassed animation Frozen that made $1.27 billion in 2013.
However, the sequel Frozen 2 is waiting for release later this year in November and probably could win back its most earning title.
The Lion King remake has one more reason to rejoice. It is currently the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time, as per data collected from Box Office Mojo.
If the Lion King manages in surpassing the earnings of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Black Panther, it could land into the top ten list.
The two, 10th and 11th, are ahead just narrowly at $1.341 billion and $1.346 billion respectively.
The original Lion King was launched in 1994 and animations of the two cannot be compared as technology has changed several folds in the period of more than two decades.
Original Lion King animator David Stephan said, “It’s sort of sad that the stockholder is now in the room deciding what movies get made.”
Beyonce has voiced for Nala in the Lion King remake and she is currently in talks as Disney is planning for another reboot’s success film with her.
Disney meanwhile has continued calling the Lion King remake as a live-action film even though no real animals and no cameras were used in its making.
