Theresa May Could Trigger Brexit In Weeks: Ireland

The Brexit process could be triggered within couple of weeks to avoid resentlful European Union leaders becoming vicious in the talks, said Irish Premier Enda Kenny.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Theresa May hinted the Article 50 for the process could be triggered by the end of March 2017.

Speaking before a press meet in Dublin Kenny claims the timetable could be derailed by a growing backlash in the EU.

He was talking on the impact of Brexit on Ireland at the All-Island Civic Dialogue and said, “That doesn’t mean it mightn’t be triggered in December – or January, or February.”

All-Island Civic Dialogue is a specially convened forum of politicians, business leaders, community representatives and others from both sides of border.

Taoiseach added the argument would be fought very toughly and the entire scenario is going to be a difficult negotiating sense.

According to him the critical issue would be the refusal of EU leaders to allow membership of single market if UK does not accept freedom of movement of EU citizens.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, Dave Anderson MP, said the Labour has been putting pressure on the Government to spell out their plan.

However, it is high time now to get some real answers as well as some clarity to understand the intentions of the government.

Apart from all these the British PM spokesperson said Theresa May remains committed to the timetable set earlier for the initiative of Article 50 by March-end.

Ireland is one of 27 member countries of EU.
