‘Titanic’ to play Toronto before heading to Broadway

NEW YORK, Jan. 16 (Entertainment Magazine) — The stage musical “Titanic” will play a six-week engagement at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto this summer before heading to Broadway, producers said.

The show is booked at the Canadian venue from July 22 through Aug. 31, producers Barry and Fran Weissler and David Mirvish announced Thursday.

Featuring music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Peter Stone, the fact-based musical about the doomed luxury liner is to open on Broadway in the fall.

Director Thom Southerland is helming the production.

Additional details, including creative team, casting and a New York theater, will be announced at a later date.

The original production of “Titanic” opened on April 23, 1997, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and ran for 804 performances. The production won five Tony Awards in 1997, including Best Musical, Book of a Musical and Score.
