Tourists Boat Explodes In Bali, German Woman Killed, 20 Injured

At least twenty people have been injured and one killed, a German woman, when a tourist ferry exploded in Bali, near port of Padang Bal harbor in the east of the island.

Post explosion images shared widely on social media shows bloodied passengers in lifeboats. Locals and crews are also being seen helping the victims on the Indonesian island.

Television footage showed blooded passengers being carried into ambulances or stretchers.

Indonesian Foreign Office said they are helping out the British holidaymakers who were affected by the blast on a tourist boat.

It is reported the cause of explosion may be faulty battery.

The explosion occurred in Gili Cat 2 speedboat about 200 meters from the departure. It was heading to a small island of Gili Trawangan, off neighboring Lombok.

Karangasem Police Chief Bambang Sudarso said the boat had forty people on board including tourists from Britain, Australia, Germany, France and South Korea. The wounded are being treated at a local medical center.

Sudarso added one woman passenger has been killed in the explosion due to bad injuries. She was hit by boat debris.

One unconfirmed report claims a second person too has died out of injury.

Boat captain has been detained by police for some questioning.

“We are providing consular assistance to British nationals affected by an explosion on a ferry off the coast of Bali,” said Foreign Office spokeswoman.

Authorities said the explosion was not caused by any bomb but it is believed to have occurred in the fuel tank.
