US Intelligence Believe North Korea’s Claim Its Missile Could Reach NYC Is Low

US intelligence does not believe North Korea has the publicized ability to reach New York with its ballistic missile. However, it is believed the capabilities of the weapons will increase.

In past few months North Korea has widely publicized a series of tests of its weapons technology showcasing it has the capabilities of developing long-range nuclear missiles.

US principal deputy undersecretary of defense for policy, Brian McKeon, said the nuclear and missile program of North Korea poses threat to the United States as well as to the allies in East Asia.

McKeon added, “Although the reliability of an untested North Korean ICBM is likely to be very low, North Korea has used its Taepodong-2 launch vehicle to put a satellite into orbit, thus demonstrating technologies applicable to a long-range missile.”

Officer responsible for defending US air space, Admiiral Bill Gortney, too said the ability of North Korea to hit their shores was low, but it is to assume they have the capability.

Gortney added the North Korea has medium-range missile capable of reaching all of South Korea and also most of the Japan.

Last week, on Saturday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the country has successfully tested a new ICBM engine making the international arms experts to believe its technology may be more advanced than what was earlier thought of.

Earlier this year, on January 6, North Korea detonated its fourth nuclear bomb despite international sanctions.
