Robin Hoods Bay: Could line up at Sandown
One-time Derby favourite Telescope is one of 10 entries for Friday’s Bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old missed all last season’s Classics but returned to win the Great Voltigeur at York last August before injury saw him miss out on an autumn campaign.
A victory in this could tee him up for a crack at the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh or the Coronation Cup at Epsom.
Robin Hoods Bay, who flashed home for third in the Coral Easter Classic at Lingfield on Friday, is also in the mix.
Having been busy on the all-weather through the winter, he had been due for a rest, but the trainer is re-considering his options given the low number of entries.
“I’ve given him an entry in the Gordon Richards this morning as the race was re-offered,” said Vaughan of the Winter Derby winner.
“We won’t make a final decision until much closer the time – it will depend on the ground and how he is.
“He didn’t have much of a race on Friday, he only sprinted for three furlongs, he wasn’t even blowing.
“It was disappointing there was no pace in the race, it was much slower than the Winter Derby and he needs a strong pace to run off.
“If he runs, he will then have a long break and maybe come back for something like the September Stakes as there’s not a whole lot for him anyway.”
Noble Mission, Sky Hunter, Contributer, Battalion, Empire Storm, Rock Choir and Emman Bee are the others engaged.
