Wiley felt the need to leak his own album in order for his record label and management to listen to him.
The East London MC’s ninth studio album ‘The Ascent’ was due to be released on 1 April through Warner Records, but the Godfather of Grime made it available via his Facebook.com page 12 days early.
Wiley, 34, wanted a mistake corrected on his new record but executives allegedly failed to act.
Taking to Twitter, he explained: “I am leaking my album at 7… Americans do it so I am doing it… If iTunes don’t do what I say I am leaking the album at 7 and I am not joking… I made a mistake on the album I need to make a change if iTunes cannot change the mistake I will leak it.
“I hate being a (sic) idiot but sometimes people only listen when you are being a (sic) idiot. All day my label and manager have been ignoring me ya na (sic) and now they are talking to me. A million events have led up to this day as well.”
Yesterday, the rapper re-tweeted messages of support from fans before removing the album from his Facebook page.
