Harrison Ford offered role in ‘Blade Runner’ sequel

LOS ANGELES, May 16 (UPI) –The producers of the long-gestating sequel to the science-fiction classic Blade Runner say they want Harrison Ford to star in it.

The 1982 movie was based on Philip K. Dick’s futuristic novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The big-screen adaptation followed Ford’s character Rick Deckard, a retired police officer called upon to help round up replicants — human-like robots — which have been outlawed on Earth.

Ridley Scott directed the film, while Hampton Fancher and David Peoples penned the screenplay. Fancher and Scott are returning for the sequel.

“We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project,” Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, co-founders and chief executive officers of Alcon Entertainment, said in a statement Thursday.

Ford, 71, has not publicly responded to the offer. He recently began work on another eagerly awaited sequel, Star Wars: Episode 7.
