Sire De Grugy: Could head to Sandown

Gary Moore has given Sire De Grugy the green light to defend his crown in the bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown on Saturday week – provided ground conditions are suitable.

In the absence of sidelined superstar Sprinter Sacre, Sire De Grugy has been the flagbearer of the two-mile division and secured his fifth victory of the campaign with a brilliant display in last month’s Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Moore is keen to give his charge the chance off to sign off with another victory on the final day of the season, but he will only line up if there is some ease in the ground.

Moore said: “Sire De Grugy is in good form and we are very much looking forward to running at Sandown next Saturday and defending his title.

“He took a bit of time to get over Cheltenham but he is now back to himself and so unless the ground is quick he will run.

“If he doesn’t run he will still go to Sandown and take part in the champions parade.”
