After a long battle with health complications, country singer Kevin Sharp passed away on Saturday (April 19).
The 43-year-old singer died of “ongoing complications from stomach surgeries and digestive issues,” according to his website.
Sharp grew up an avid athlete, but his career came to a halt when he was diagnosed with bond cancer in his leg. Kevin was granted a surprise through Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2006 before his death and wrote about it for Guideposts magazine.
“Four months into this new treatment, a woman I’d never seen before came to my bedside in the hospital,” Sharp wrote. “‘I’m from the Make-A-Wish foundation,’ she said. ‘We’d like to fulfill a wish of yours. Going somewhere you’ve never gone. Doing something you’ve never done. Or meeting someone special. … You give me the name and we’ll do everything possible to make it happen.'”
After his experience with the organization, Kevin made it a life mission of his to get involved and create wonderful experiences for young children suffering from cancer.
He also won the Country Music Association’s New Touring Artist prize, but took greater pride in an award he received from Make-A-Wish as “Wish Granter of the Year.”
